Is pelvic physio just for people with vaginas?
One of the most common misconceptions I run into is that people with vaginas have the gender monopoly on issues “down there.” News flash! Not only do people with penises have pelvises too, the same complex tangle of issues - emotional, psychological, physical - that can cause people with vaginas to need to see a medical professional affect people of other genders too. Basically: If you’re a human, pelvic physio is for you! Seriously: The biggest difference between between people with penises and those with vaginas is the number of holes.
Here’s an incomplete list of all the conditions that a person with a penis might have that can be treated conservatively by a pelvic physio: Prostatitis, fecal incontinence, urinary incontinence, pudendal neuralgia, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, bowel management...I could go on and on, but I’m more interested in combating the stigma that might exist among people with penises when it comes to seeking help, specifically when it comes to any issue around their groin area. That social taboo affects people with vaginas too, but I think it might be even worse among those with a penis.
It’s so important for people to know that support is out there for them, and there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Not even when things are leaking. Seriously, I’ve seen it all, and nothing will shock me, and you’ll never find even the tiniest bit of judgement from me. Promise.
