What To Expect
Pelvic health physiotherapy is more than Kegel exercises and “engaging the core”. In fact, the deep pelvic floor muscles are not visible to the eye so it can be difficult to assess on your own whether you are doing exercises properly or if the core exercises you are using are the best choice for your particular condition.
Pelvic health physiotherapy is a specialized type of manual therapy that provides a thorough internal and external assessment of your deep pelvic floor muscles to evaluate any pelvic floor dysfunction as well as their interaction with the back and hips. This assessment provides your physiotherapist with the information needed to craft a personalized care plan that will treat your symptoms and restore your pelvic floor muscles. Strong, healthy pelvic floor muscles are extremely important because they offer support to the bladder, uterus, genitals and anus.
Your Appointment
Each session takes place one-on-one in a private, quiet treatment room, and your appointment begins with a thorough, confidential assessment of your medical history.
After receiving your consent to continue, a detailed physical assessment is done internally and/or externally. Disrobing from the waist down is required for internal examination, and appropriate draping will be provided.
Based on the assessment results, you will be provided with a personalized treatment plan and home exercise program.
Throughout your recovery, your concerns and symptoms will be continually assessed to ensure you have a progressive rehabilitation program that is meaningful to you. Your concerns will change with time, and so should the personalized treatment plan.
OUR MUTUAL COMMITMENT
