Will pelvic physio hurt?
The key word is pelvic health physiotherapy is “therapy.” It might be uncomfortable--most healing is--but it should never be painful. If there is discomfort, your physiotherapist will work with you to find ways to relieve it. When we’re working together, I might say, “Go to a pain level of 2 or 3 out of 10,” and then use a targeted technique to get it down to 1, or even 0, and then hold it for a few minutes. We do that so the body can adapt, learn this new sensation, and understand the change that’s happening. My goal is to teach you to do this at home, so you’re empowered and understand your own body better.
Pelvic health physiotherapy is often about so much more than physical tissue manipulation. It’s an area of the body that has a lot of emotional weight attached to it. This means when we treat a patient, we treat the whole person, not just the condition. You might find yourself experiencing some emotional discomfort--but know that’s part of the process and we will work through it together. It’s why I keep a box of tissues in my office. If you end up crying in my office, know you’re not alone! Pelvic health physiotherapy is about discovery, and my clinic aims to be a safe, supportive place for you to take this journey.
